Claiming DLA and carer benefits

For filling in the DLA form or talking to an adviser.

Before the appointment

  • Your child's diagnosis letter and recent reports
  • A diary of care and supervision for a typical day and night
  • How much more care your child needs compared with other children the same age

Questions to ask

  1. Have I described what a bad day looks like, not just a good day?
  2. Have I included care at night?
  3. Have I explained mobility needs (from age 3)?
  4. Which reports or letters should I send with the form?
  5. Once DLA is awarded, can I claim Carer's Allowance or Carer's Credit?
  6. Could we get a Blue Badge, Motability or other help?
  7. What if the decision seems wrong?
  8. Who can help me fill in the form for free?
